We work from two places. Commercial and import sit in Mumbai; everything that is made, inspected and despatched happens at Daman.
The two locations
Why the work is split
Alpine Stampings has manufactured at one site since 1997, and has never had a second. Everything that is cut, stamped, inspected and packed happens at the works at Kachigam, Nani Daman. The registered office at Lower Parel, Mumbai does the work that does not touch steel: enquiries, costing, import documentation and customer accounts.
The split is older than it looks. The import desk has run from Mumbai since 1998, handling letters of credit, customs clearance and documentation in house rather than through an agent, which is what makes it possible to buy direct from the mills across both domestic and international origins. The coil that desk brings in is what the press shop at Daman runs.
For a buyer it means two different conversations in two different places, and one set of paperwork behind both: the enquiry and the quotation come from Mumbai, and the part, its inspection report and the mill test certificate come from Daman.
